The Return of the Ray? That's right, Canard's old band Bacon Ray is performing for one night only Saturday April 9 in Tallahassee, Florida, opening for The Wrens! Needless to say everyone's super excited about this!
New mp3s from summer 2004 on the Sounds page!
Hello Canardians! I figured it was time to send out an update on our recent period of inactivity. Now some news: We have pretty much disbanded. This was not acrimonious. I have nothing but love and respect for Brent and Marc and the music we have made together. I want to thank them for their rock solid support and immeasurable creative input over the last 3 years. We have had the pleasure of being supported by a few very loyal fans and some very good friends. I would like to extend our gratitude to our good buddy Adam Steritt foir his help and allegiance and of course to "the wives" for their patience and support as well. It's tough for us old guys!
I do not expect this site to remain inactive and I do hope and believe that we will continue to make music apart and sometimes together. While there has not been any live activity there have been strong signs of life in the studio. We will be posting the final(for now) EP of Magnetic Band period Canard in the near future so check back! We also hope to post new studio recordings of solo Canard as well as some of the "vault" stuff I promised eons ago. I do not have any live gigs planned for now,but may attempt more in the future. I will be playing live with The Exploding Madonna on the drumkit and synth. Remember to support local music! If you get a chance check out the "Tallahassee Makes Music" section at the Leon County Public Library. That's history fools! If you want or need any Canard releases or older Newboy Legion, Bacon Ray or anything else that might have us on it...let us know!
lovey dub dubs,
THE DUCK
Check out photos from Canard's performance as The Velvet Underground back in April at Club Downunder.
We're continuing to record tons of new stuff and having a blast. Check back soon for some rough mixes.
Hi Canard here! After a few months of healing up from my debacle in Atlanta with the guys we are way back on track. We currently are planning live gigs in the fall and have been working very hard in the studio. Brent has big plans for the site in the near future and you will soon be able to download a lot of new stuff. I am very excited about the new material and everyone is really pitching in a lot of effort.
We're going for a more spontaneous sound a lot like the very old Canard stuff, but a little more refined than that. Marc brought in a tune and it is shaping up to be quite the earwig! One of the plans for the future is to have a weekly "from the vaults" download where we'll feature an unreleased or out of print mp3 from any variety of my ridiculous amount of projects over the years. You can expect some Ultraboy, singing spoons, Ancient Brain and some live and or old studio Canard. Hopefully soon we'll have some tunes off of "A Pleasure To Be Around" as well as a possible video clip from the Velvet Underground tribute show. See you soon and thanks for your on going support and interest.
El Canard-o
Sorry for the lack of updates recently. We've been busy working on some way out-there new material. Right now we've got rough mixes of two new tunes, working titles "Orange Cube" and "SST." We may try to post an mp3 or two when we get closer to final mixes.
Check this out! It's a 15-second Flash promo cartoon for our song "Ocean Würm" by none other than Matt Chapman of homestarrunner fame!! Thanks a million, Matt!

Marc, after gleefully returning Mark E. Smith's rubbish
Canard's health continues to improve and we've been working on a clutch of new songs...
Bad news from the Canard camp: Mike tore up his knee at our Atlanta show and is out of commission for the time being. Probably an ACL issue. After an excellent set by Solution Science Systems, we took the stage and played about one minute of "Slow Breather" before Mike hit the deck. Please think good thoughts in Canard's general direction until further notice!
Due to the knee blowout, Friday's Pensacola show is cancelled. That is, Canard won't be playing. If you're in P'cola, go out and see Boat on Friday!
Our Velvet Underground set at CDU's Local Covers Night was an absolute blast!! We played for a couple of hundred enthusiastic folks and had a really great time. The show was videotaped and we hope to have a clip to show you sometime soon.
Marc and I made the best of our Atlanta trip despite the injury to Mike. After Mike and Addie headed home, we took in an awesome Braves game, went to Manuel's Tavern on numerous occasions, met Mark E. Smith, and took out his rubbish in exchange for guest list spots for Saturday night's show.
Several gigs coming up in April-
Friday April 9 performing as The Velvet Underground at Club Downunder's Local Covers Night;
Monday April 12 at the Beta Bar with Athens' The Glands (doors at 8:30, we'll go on around 9);
Thursday April 15 at the Echo Lounge in Atlanta with our pals Solution Science Systems;
and Friday April 23 at The Handlebar in Pensacola. Not bad for these old boys!
On Friday, April 9, Canard will perform as The Velvet Underground at Club Downunder's Local Covers Night with special guest Ashley as Nico! Our pals Cream Abdul Babar will be playing the music of Madonna and Xelophane Uziq will rock some Al Green. Should be a blast!!
